Baked Apples
with Cream
|
4 Granny Smith apples
1/3 cup sultanas
2 tablespoons soft brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground mixed spice
30g (1 oz) butter, cut into pieces
1 cup orange juice or water
2/3 cup whipped cream for serving
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Total cooking time: 45 minutes

- Preheat oven to moderate 180°C (350°F). Using an apple corer, remove cores. Replace a small amount of core in bases of the apples. Using a sharp knife, make a shallow cut through the skin, around the middle of the apples to prevent skin from bursting during cooking.
- Combine sultanas, sugar and spice. Spoon into apples.
- Place apples in small baking dish; add butter and pour in juice or water.
- Bake, uncovered, 45 minutes, basting occasionally. Remove from oven; cool for 5 minutes. Place apples on individual serving plates. Pour pan juices over apples. Serve with whipped cream.
